The new Silk Road connects China with Europe by land and Asia with Africa by sea. However, the extensive customs formalities and export and import regulations are still one of the main reasons why Swiss companies are reluctant to choose this trade route to China.
On September 4th, 2019, Sulser Transport AG and its partner TRB dispatched their first container train between Switzerland and China. A complete assembly system of the Swiss special machine manufacturer INSYS smart automation®, Münsingen (BE), was transported via the Silk Road Route to Hefei/China and on to ITE Automation in Suzhou. The valuable freight was 20 days on its way by rail.
Transports by rail can be an attractive alternative to trucks: they are environmentally friendly, CO2-saving and offer large capacities at favourable freight prices.
